LUDHIANA: Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) undergraduate girl hostellers have a reason to cheer. The authorities have extended their hostel entry time till 8 pm after a meeting between students and director, students welfare, D S Cheema on Tuesday. But as the change is till October 24, when the youth festival will conclude, a committee will later be formed to take a decision on their hostel entry and exit time.
In the meeting, issues like lack of filtered drinking water in hostels and five girls, instead of three, staying in most of the rooms were also taken up. The authorities assured to resolve these soon.
A hosteller said, "I am participating in youth festival. As the competition is tough, I have to practise a lot. The previous entry time of 7 pm was a bit early. The change to 8 pm will give me an hour extra to practice.''
Another hosteller said, "I fail to understand why the university is strict with the hostel time of undergraduate girl students... postgraduate girl students are allowed entry till 8:30 pm.''
Cheema said, "At the time of admission, the girl students' parents were apprised of the hostel facilities. Hostel rooms were allotted to girls after their consent.''
"As the youth festival is going on, the hostel time has been extended to 8 pm. Later, a committee will be formed and the decision reviewed. The hostel time will be fixed after the completion of youth festival,'' he added.
